On the subject debate on the dingo as a pet .
Over a period of 18 months of 10 dingoes that were brought here .hoping i would take them .
No longer wanted for no more no less than those who chose to live with them could not cope .
ages between 6 months to 6 years . of that 10 .7 were on mind altering drugs . prozac being a favourite .endep and endone .anti psychotic drugs . these animal were unable to focus. were more unpredictable and suffering high anxiery .feeling defenseless making them more defensive .
for those of us who have had experience with these drugs depending on your ability to cope with such and for what purpose you were prescribed this. Endep and endone are usually used for extreme pain . in my case i was unable to think or make decisions. However they helped with the pain.but it was the one and only time i ever gave thought to self destruction
.these drugs are addictive . I ceased and refuses to use them and I suffered over 2 weeks of withdraw .
To put an animal on such drugs is horrendous. (And yes animals suffer with depression and i have for short term under vet advice treated dogs for depression ) however we are talking dingoes wild primitive animals and the reason they are on this medication is due to people not coping with dingo behaviour and this is an out. keep the animal sedated .
what damage is done .?
I refused to take in a drug dependant dingo . i refuse to have to work at decreasing the doses to wean them off this dependancy and I refuse to deal with the aftermath of such dependancy unsure of the long term effect .why are these animals forced into compliance if indeed they make good pets ?
Has not enough humiliating and debased actions been brought upon them ?
Live with a dingo if that is your choice but on behalf of the dingo do your research .forcing these animals to comply by any means other than respect and understanding is cruelty .
I was asked to assist with rhe rehome of a 13 month old dingo ( not in my care )
The person who had this animal wanted to know why they cant breed them tame ?
I laugh because thats exactly what they have been attempting for over 40 years and still they havent realised his genetics go back thousands of years . they are not designed to be pets they are predators . and all get on a band wagon of Australia’s apex predator yet treat him with less respect than a rabbid dog .
They just love rhe wild spirit they say . but spend 99 % of the time breaking him .
resetting they call it .forcing him into confrontation then holding him down to prove what ? That you are superior. Human nature. if you dont understand you have to control break or eradicate
Implants to control testesterone . no concern for the effects this may have on a wild animal . females forced to wear pants . is this the future for our Apex predator.
He is either Australia’s top predator or he is no more than a house dog .
We truly have pure dingoes in the wild surely time spent breaking dingoes for domestic ego and pleasure would be better spent saving our wild dingo .
