Crossroads Dingo Rescue

December 9, 2018 by Crossroads Dingo Rescue   No comments   Filed Under: Dingo Diary

On the 30 Nov we posted a video of a dingo x seen hanging around a pizza shop in the High Wycome area
We have since been asked why we did not attempt to encourage and entrap him in the pizza shop by administering a drug in food
As was suggested by others .
Assessing all scenarios
The dingo x showed no sign of distress,
Well fed
Was he at risk on the road ? He appeared road wise
To embark on a try and catch mission perhaps could have created a flight fight response

To have requested the shop owner to remove all patrons whilse one attempts to entice said dingo x in to unfamiliar area creating entrapment, again flight or fight response

Lost earnings to shop and risk factor for employees and any patrons
Due to flight fight could take hours for meds to take affect if at all

The drugs being Acepromazol
Anti psychotic drug once used on humans
Now used on animals
Usually as pre med prior to anesthetic

On vets advice ( with over 40 years experience )
The drug has been found to be unreliable

When dealing with dingo one would need to be cautious when administering drugs
Common result with dingo is adrenalin kicks in fighting said drugs
When feeling defenseless they become defensive .
Weight of animal is imperative when administering drugs ( how acurate could one be when attempting to guess weight of said animal )
Adverse effect is known when using this drug on dingoes
I will not use drugs on a dingo, when medical history unknown
Many are already on prozac endone and endep or other
The responsibility of administering a drug to an animal that may not be lost or dumped
Is a risk when one understands the danger of such drugs and the side affects known to be associated with these drugs .

We do not have the financial resourse to embark on a unknown mission
We do not have holding facilities, foster homes to encroach on
We do not agree with foster for dingoes having intolerance to many changes intolerance to unfamiliar territory
We however could do with a reliable van in which we can do high kilometer rescue missions .
However what others do is their business what we do here is the priority and safety of the animal and is our business .
